What is Baby Yoga?

Baby Yoga is specifically adapted for mothers to practice with their babies. The Sanskrit word yoga is translated as 'union' between mind, body and spirit. In the West, the most widely taught form of yoga is Hatha Yoga with classes offering students exercises to stretch and flex the body, develop breath awareness, relaxation and sometimes meditation.

Baby yoga provides babies with physical and mental stimulation through a variety of gentle exercises and movements.

These classes provide a great opportunity for parents and babies to bond in a lively yet relaxed atmosphere. As well as helping both mum/dad and baby to relax. The exercises also encourage babies to become more aware of their bodies, whilst encouraging parents to have confidence in handling their baby. Baby yoga may also help soothe sleep problems and colic, whilst aiding digestion. Other benefits include enhanced muscular coordination and general development.

Baby Yoga helps children to improve on their basic motor, communicative and cognitive skills. The yoga routines also help children with learning disabilities to develop greater concentration, balance and posture.

The Baby Yoda Classes

The classes are suitable for babies from around the age of four months to around eleven months (mobile). The classes are based around movement, rhythm and song. This means that baby yoga is not only fun but can also be incorporated into daily activities at both playtime and relaxation. Baby Yoga is a natural progression of baby massage. The yoga allows your infant the freedom to stretch, relax and have fun in a safe setting. This method of infant yoga, adapted from Hatha Yoga, offers physical stimulation, helping them to strengthen their spines and develop supple joints.
