What is Acrossage?
Acrossage is also known as Inversion Therapy and is a combination of massage and acrobatics. It is when the massage patient is literally suspended upside down using the hands or the feet of the practitioner. This form of massage therapy can provides a test for trust and surrender. If you cannot trust and surrender yourself to your partner’s ability and will to hold you in place, Acrossage might not be the right therapy for you.
What is the history of Acrossage?
Benjamin Marantz, a professional acrobat and circus clown, began testing out massage techniques on his fellow acrobats in the 1980s. By holding the patient in certain acrobatic positions, he realized that he could activate healing pressure points. Following a back injury, he was testing out an upside down frog technique and realized the healing powers this new position had. He then refined and copyrighted the technique.
What are the benefits of Acrossage?
When in the inverted positions and relaxed, a patient’s spinal column is allowed to readjust itself and the patient’s circulation will usually improve. In this position, an Acrossage patient can feel as if they are free floating, which allows them to think differently about themselves, as well as perceive themselves differently.
Once this happens, the patient is able to experience greater spirituality as well as test further limits of their own potential. Other benefits that can be achieved through Acrossage are
- Balancing the effects of gravity - by having Acrossage therapy sessions often on a regular basis, it is possible to limit the effects that gravity has on the body as one begins to age.
- Prevention of illness and other problems - since Acrossage increases the flow of blood and oxygen throughout the body, this boosts the immune system and leads to an improved nervous system, which can help prevent illnesses and other problems.
- Better complexion - because oxygen and blood flow is increased to the head on a regular basis (this always happens when a person is suspended upside down for any length of time), this can result in a much clearer complexion.
- Better memory - The more oxygen the brain receives, the better able the memory is to work, so patients of Acrossage therapy often have an improved memory after the treatment.
